Recycling and Reuse Guide from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.

Recycling Tips from Green Piece Indy

Electronic Waste: eCycles program of the City of Indianapolis will accept any make or model of cell phones, computers (laptop or desk model), and computer components including hard drives, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice and joy stick controllers, PC cards and circuit boards, PC speakers and microphones, USB devices, external power supplies, and gaming accessories. Drop these off at the toxic waste drop site: 7400 Lafayette Road (about a block north of the INDOT maintenance facility), first and third Saturdays of each month, 9 am – 2 pm

Plastic Bags: Recycling is not a viable option for these. Instead, bring your own reusable fabric bag when shopping.

Plastic Containers Labeled 1 through 7: Ray's Curbside Recycling now takes all of these.

Phone Books: Republic Services, 96th Street Transfer Station, accepts phone books in the fall through December 15. From 96th & Zionsville Road, drive east on 96th, then angle right on Robeson Road toward Tiffany Lawn & Garden. Republic will be on the right just before Tiffany. To opt out of receiving phone books, visit Yellow Pages Goes Green, a site aimed at starting a national movement to solicit the White/Yellow Pages industry to proactively stop the delivery of unwanted phonebooks.

Styrofoam: Createc, an Indianapolis expanded polystyrene recycling center, has a drop-off site that’s open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bring your clean, white EPS (#6 plastic) to 6835 N. Guion Road. Materials brought to Createc are densified, then sent to reprocessing plants that convert them to crystalline polystyrene to be used again by plastics molders.
