Why We Can’t Afford to Wait

Real health care reform will make America stronger. The current system has led to out-of-control costs which weaken our country financially. America has lost its leadership role—compared to other developed countries, we pay more for health care but don’t have healthier citizens.

We have a responsibility to see that our fellow Americans do not suffer needlessly. Every day that we don’t fix the broken health care system, more Indiana residents are denied life-saving medical treatment, dropped from their insurance coverage, or bankrupted by medical bills.

All Americans should have access to quality health care. It’s only fair. Health insurance should cover the sick and the unemployed, not just people with good health and steady jobs.

A public health insurance option will make the health care system more effective. A public option will create healthy competition to drive down costs. And it will be there for people who lose their private insurance or lose their jobs. It’s part of creating a better future for Americans.
